Paul’s practice covers a wide range of transactional components and is focused on real estate, real estate finance, capital markets, affordable housing finance, leasing and corporate matters. Paul also has significant experience in governmental affairs, regulatory and administrative law, particularly in the areas of land use, zoning, project entitlement and environmental compliance. He has represented commercial, residential and affordable housing developers in all phases of a real estate transaction including acquisition, obtaining entitlements, financing and disposition.
Prior to joining Spierer, Woodward, Corbalis & Goldberg, Paul worked as in-house counsel for the parent company of a publicly traded subsidiary real estate investment company which aggregates leases in the telecommunications, outdoor advertising, data center and renewable asset classes. He also ran his own law practice focusing on real estate, real estate finance, affordable housing finance and land use & zoning. In addition, over the past fifteen years he has worked as an associate in the real estate departments at several large and mid-sized law firms in both Los Angeles and Chicago. In addition to his experience in the private sector, Paul also has significant government experience. Paul served as an Assistant to former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, where he was responsible for managing and coordinating the participation of all City of Chicago departments involved in the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan for Transformation, a $1.5 billion capital improvement program designed to transform traditional public housing developments into mixed income communities. He also served as Chief of Staff to Chicago City Treasurer Stephanie D. Neely, where he managed the daily operations of the City Treasurer’s Office following a brief return to Chicago in 2011.
Paul received his J.D. from the University of Iowa, College of Law and his B.A. from North Carolina Central University. He is admitted to practice law in both California and Illinois.
Paul resides in El Segundo with his wife, twin boys and three adult daughters.
